Chyler Leigh and Nathan West have separated after 24 years of marriage. Leigh, best known for playing Lexie Grey on Grey’s Anatomy and Alex Danvers on Supergirl, confirmed the split in a podcast interview published on May 12, 2026. It was the first time she had ever spoken publicly about the end of the marriage. The two wed in 2002 and have three children together. Here is what Leigh said, who Nathan West is, and where things stand now.

What Chyler Leigh Said About the Separation

Leigh was candid in the interview, describing a gradual drift rather than a sudden rupture. She explained it this way: “It hit a point where it was like, ‘Okay, what you want and what I want aren’t really lining up anymore.'”

She spoke about both of them having been through significant personal trauma and falling into a pattern that kept repeating. “We just [were] perpetuating that cycle,” she said. The moment of clarity came when she saw the effect on the wider family. “When it becomes so abundantly apparent, and the kids are picking up on it, and like the whole family, it just shifts the mood and the dynamic of everything,” she noted.

Despite the breakup, she described the relationship with West as remaining respectful and cooperative. “I’d rather us be on good terms and us not harbor the resentment and the anger,” she said. The two are co-parenting their three children and, by Leigh’s account, handling it amicably.

A 24-Year Marriage That Started on Set

Leigh and West first met while auditioning for a WB pilot called Saving Graces. Their relationship developed during the early 2000s, and West proposed to Leigh on the set of Not Another Teen Movie (2001). The couple married on July 20, 2002, in Alaska, where West was raised.

Over the next two decades, they were unusually private about their life together. Leigh built a high-profile television career during that time, including five years on Grey’s Anatomy and six seasons on Supergirl. West stayed largely out of the public eye. Their personal life rarely surfaced in interviews.

The two also collaborated musically, recording and performing together under the name WestLeigh. Music was part of the fabric of their relationship in a way that extended beyond their acting careers.

The split had apparently already happened before the May 2026 podcast. Leigh had never discussed it publicly before that interview, which reflects the same discretion the couple maintained throughout the marriage.

Who Is Nathan West

Nathan West (born September 29, 1978) is an actor, musician, and producer from Anchorage, Alaska. His film credits include Bring It On (2000), where he played Cliff Pantone; Miracle (2004), the dramatization of the US Olympic hockey team’s 1980 gold medal win; and Not Another Teen Movie (2001).

His acting career was most active in the early 2000s. Outside of film work, he has pursued music independently, citing Van Morrison, Bob Dylan, and Otis Redding as influences. He has also worked as a producer on various projects.

West is not a public figure in the traditional sense. His name surfaces almost entirely in connection with Leigh’s work or their relationship rather than his own projects. He has remained private throughout the years of their marriage, and that appears to be continuing following the separation.

Their Three Children

Leigh and West have three children: Noah (23), Taelyn (19), and Anniston (17). All three are adults or near-adults. Leigh noted in the interview that the family dynamic as a whole had been affected by the tension in the marriage, which was part of what made the decision feel necessary.

With the children at those ages, the practical side of co-parenting is less about school schedules and more about maintaining family relationships. Leigh was explicit that she wants to preserve those relationships, and that means keeping things on good terms with West.

What Chyler Leigh Is Doing Now

Leigh is currently starring in and producing The Way Home on Hallmark Channel, opposite Andie MacDowell. She plays Kat Landry, a woman who left her small Canadian hometown of Port Haven after a family tragedy and has remained estranged from her mother ever since. The show entered its fourth and final season on April 19, 2026.

She has also continued touring with the band East of Eli. That musical project is separate from the WestLeigh collaboration she had with Nathan West during the marriage.

The podcast appearance that confirmed the split was part of a broader willingness to speak openly that has emerged in this phase of her career. At 44, Leigh appears to be approaching her personal life with more transparency than she maintained during the Grey’s Anatomy years. The announcement came with The Way Home in its final stretch and her professional life in an active, stable place.
